Working on a half size mannequin saves (half) the time, materials and energy compared to working on a real size mannequin during the development process. It is useful during the design process; have the visual references when exploring shape, proportion, cuts and drape using fabrics or pattern paper. It’s also beneficial for technical references such as for trying out the pattern pieces or developing one through draping. Making a half size sample/mockup to see how your garment wants to sew and finish can also be useful.
